What I love most about being a therapist is sharing a deep connection with others. In therapy, self awareness grows and interpersonal relationships deepen. There are so many “theories” about how to achieve life goals. No doubt, you’ve tried many things on your own. Perhaps you’re feeling overwhelmed or “stuck”. It’s time to add to your set of tools. The challenge in therapy is developing an approach that will be most effective with your unique abilities and personality style. As a psychologist I witness profound changes in my clients. Using our resources together we are able to effectively address even life’s most complex challenges. Let’s meet and explore!

Experience

Dr. Roberts’ career has blended experiences in clinical psychology, nursing, teaching and emergency services. She began her professional work as a nurse at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital on a general medical surgical unit then moved into her area of interest: psychiatry. She worked in multiple areas of inpatient psychiatry at Jefferson including voluntary, involuntary, dual diagnosis and crisis settings. Her interests led her to pursue her education in graduate clinical psychology where she worked with adults, adolescents, seniors, couples and groups participating in outpatient, residential and community therapy. In graduate school she began teaching.

At various times in her career she taught psychology, nursing and general education students at undergraduate and graduate levels. She was a full time assistant professor at Thomas Jefferson University and an adjunct faculty member at Widener University and University of Cincinnati. More recently she became a certified police trainer for New Jersey and taught police, firefighters, medics and emt’s how to respond appropriately to people with mental health conditions.

Dr. Roberts has maintained an outpatient private practice in clinical psychology since 1995 providing psychotherapy and diagnostic evaluations. She continued to practice nursing at Virtua and Capital Health working for 15 years as an emergency room nurse. For many years she participated in critical incident response teams that served first responders in New Jersey and Ohio. Her current private practice offers individual, and couples outpatient psychotherapy. Treatment groups are being formed with area’s of common focus. The right group of individuals meeting regularly, in a mutually supportive, shared learning environment can produce powerful interpersonal change, and offer effective treatment at a reduced cost. Dr. Roberts celebrates clients from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds and is an ally for LGBTQIA+ inclusivity. She most enjoys helping people to achieve deeper life satisfaction whatever their goals. In addition to serving a wide range of clients with varied life difficulties, most recently her practice concentrates on recovery in people who struggle with substance misuse and people impacted by the criminal justice system.

Dr. Roberts is a life long learner and continues to pursue educational goals and challenges herself with new clinical experiences. She views social reform and systemic change as a personal responsibility.
